Overview
The overall intention of the composites business briefing is to present a high level but useful picture of the business conditions affecting the whole of the composites value chain for both existing players and new entrants. Although there are technology elements of this, the slant will be on the future landscape in business terms.

Planned Sessions are:

  • The National Composites Centre has been established by the University of Bristol. This entity, which will have a technology development and transfer centre to the NE of Bristol, will touch all aspects of the UK composites sector. As it develops it will be essential for the composites value chain to know about what is going on within the centre as this is the tangible output from the UK government’s composites strategy and its intention is to engage widely with all parts of the UK composites sector.

  • UK Trade and Investment are currently performing a value chain mapping exercise of UK composites activity. This will include breakdowns by segment of the value chain and will include some very useful numbers for anyone who is planning future investments in business and technology capability in this area.

  • Automation in layup and assembly is one of the key ways in which the specific cost of composite components and structures is being reduced. The manual content is reducing as part of a transition from a cottage industry to a larger scale and more agile sector. The business case for automation companies to be part of the composites industry will be of intense interest to composites sector players.

  • Reducing dependence upon oil based materials is putting the use of sustainable and natural fibres and resin systems onto the horizon. This aspect of composites will have increasing significance as legislative and consumer trends towards sustainability become more defined and the future uses of these materials will not be confined to low performance, low value goods.

Venue

Hosted in the 500 seater ‘Business Briefings Auditorium’ for the co-locating Aero Engineering show , the 2010 UK Composites Sector - Technology & Business Briefing will bring together senior management from current & prospective composite user groups, together with representatives across the UK composites industry value chain.
